Tonight the BEA and the School Committee discussed the BEA’s updated proposals for UNIT C and UNIT D. Despite the significant economic movement made by the BEA in both sets of proposals, the school committee continued to express their feeling that we are asking for too much.
During the session, a Unit D bargaining team member team shared feelings of being devalued by the attitudes of the School Committee and their team, as well as concerns about student and staff needs going unmet. The School Committee responded that this is not about values “it’s a mathematical exercise.” The BEA strongly believes our students deserve schools that reflect the values of our community, not math exercises.
We’re meeting again tomorrow night to talk about Time on Learning and our Unit A workday (prep time, class size, caseload) proposals. We had a high percentage of Unit C and Unit D educators tonight as silent reps because we were focused on proposals that impacted their units. We need the same showing from Unit A tomorrow night.
