Timetable for Unit A Staff Evaluations
Teachers, Nurses, Counselors without professional status:
1) Unit A staff without professional status will have three formal observations (along with the associated pre- and post- conferences) between October and March. At least two of these observations will be conducted before January 31. Post-observation conferences must be held within 5 school days during which both parties are present. A written observation must be completed within 10 school days following the post-observation meeting.
2) Unit A staff should have a final evaluation conference by June 1 to review their evaluation report. The evaluation report should be given to the teacher no later than 3 school days prior to the evaluation conference. Unit A Staff with professional status in Year 2:
Unit A staff member and evaluator will agree on a time for at least one (1) formal observation. The evaluator completes an evaluation checklist. The year 2 checklist will not include comments.
Unit A Staff with professional status in Year 4:
1.) Unit A staff with professional status in Year 4 will have at least 2 formal evaluations.
2.) A Comprehensive Evaluation and Year-End Evaluation conference must be held by the first Friday in June.
There are currently three different evaluation instruments for teachers, nurses, and counselors (including social workers and school adjustment counselors). There are all included in the Unit A contract (pages 55-103)
For more detailed guidelines on the evaluation process, check Appendix D, A Handbook for Evaluation of Unit A Personnel in Belmont, in the Unit A Contract (pp. 55-103). The chart of Evaluation Responsibilities, coordinating and contributing evaluators, is listed on page 102 of the contract.
BHS Flexible Time
High School Teachers should be familiar with the Side Letter on the High School Schedule (page 36).
“Teachers who are scheduled to have classes in both Mods A and O will be allowed flexible time during their non-teaching periods, at which time they are not required to be in the high school building. It is understood that the use of flexible time is a benefit which does not intrude on the professional responsibilities of teachers. If the Principal has appropriate concerns related to the use of flexible time by a teacher, the Principal and the Association President will meet to address and resolve those concerns.”
